Don’t come for me, nothing about this post is going to be healthy. What’s Valentine’s Day without the sweets right?

We are a huge donut family. At this point we’ve tried ALL of the donuts. But I’ve never realized how easy it is to make them at home! The combinations are endless. You can use any type of cake mix along with your favorite icing and toppings.

How do you Make Cake Mix Donuts?

It is super simple! For my donuts, I followed the box directions on the Funfetti cake mix and poured the batter into a donut pan. I have seen a ton of different recipes online, but honestly – I need it quick, fast and in a hurry. I baked them for 15 minutes at 350 degrees. They did rise quite a bit, so make sure to only fill the molds half to three quarters of the way. Next time I will use a piping bag to fill the molds that way I can make sure I am filling the mold just enough.

Following the box directions will give you donuts with a cake like consistency. I prefer donuts like this, but if you want a denser treat – I recommend looking for alternatives for the eggs and oil like unsweetened applesauce.

What are your Favorite Donut Toppings?

My favorite part of the homemade donuts are adding the toppings. Since we are going for a Valentine’s Day treat, I decided to add some pink icing, conversation heart candies, cotton candy and colored sprinkles. Your little ones will love adding their favorite toppings to this recipe. Cassidy was literally over the moon, she even took out her own vlog camera to document the yumminess. What combinations would you try? Chocolate donuts with coconut flakes sound amazing to me.

Remember when I said this recipe wasn’t going to be healthy? Check out these donuts! They are light, delicious and super quick to make for your favorite Valentine.
