Hi Everyone! I cannot tell you how excited I am that it is socially acceptable to decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving this year. Historically we have waited until the day after Thanksgiving to get all of our décor down from the attic but with the pandemic stealing our joy this year, we decided it was time to get into the Christmas spirit.

I have a ton of content ideas for the Christmas season, so buckle up! Today’s post is going to be all about our main Christmas tree and how I went about styling it this year. I wanted to share this with you all because I usually would never purchase a faux Christmas tree, but this one checks all of the boxes and I am so excited about it!

If you are looking for Christmas Tree decor inspiration, look no further!

Each year I usually find an item that sparks a décor idea for our Christmas tree. I love creating mood boards surrounding the tree and picking up special pieces here and there that will complement the theme.

My idea for this year’s tree stemmed completely from last year’s tree. Last year I requested that the lot we purchase our Christmas trees from lightly dust our tree with flocking. I wanted the tree to look feminine and as if it flurried for the first time. I adored the tree and my idea came to life.

However, this year, I wanted to amp up the flocking and add some golds and natural wood tones to the tree. I wanted a full tree with lots of pinecones and warm lights.

Let’s get into the details!

I found our tree at Lowe’s Home Improvement after searching high and low at every other store in my area. It is 7.5ft tall and fits perfectly in the corner of our living room. What is great about the tree is that it has many light settings and can go from warm white lights to multicolored lights. To be honest, I am not a huge fan of multi-colored lights, however, Cassidy loves it. I love that we can compromise by the click of a button. Find our tree HERE.

With the ornaments I decided to go very feminine. Personally, I do not like filling up a tree with ornaments and ribbon to the point that you can no longer see the branches underneath. I like for the beauty of the tree to be complemented by the ornaments. To achieve this, I start with small plastic ornaments in a variety of finishes. I used a matte light pink, a glittery gold, a metallic pink, a shiny gold and an iridescent white.

After placing those ornaments around the tree, I started filling in the gaps. I took a larger gold ornament and placed it in select places on the tree to add dimension to the tree. Once done with that, I started to add my wood texture into the tree. Since this tree already had a bunch of pinecones, I knew I wanted to opt for a lighter wood finish.

Walking around Michaels, I noticed wood painting crafts for children. They had nutcrackers in an unfinished wood, and they were buy one get one free! Talk about the perfect addition. I fastened an ornament hook under each nutcrackers arm, and I am in love with how it turned out.

The next pieces I decided to add were wooden snowflakes. They came in a 6 pack from Michaels and were painted white. The paint was uneven and chippy, and I thought it added character. I filled those in to bigger gaps in the tree.

ONE | TWO | THREE | FOUR | FIVE

Let’s talk tree skirts. I usually opt for a tree skirt. For the past 3 years I have been going the faux fur route, because I think it makes the tree elegant and whimsical. However, when I found the tree in Lowe’s I noticed they had a selection of tree collars. The one I chose is galvanized metal with snowflake cut outs. It is absolutely beautiful and ties into the flocking perfectly. Find the collar HERE.

I haven’t completely gotten rid of the idea of having the faux fur skirt. I may just add it underneath the tree collar.

Other subtle additions to this tree are these small white houses from the Target dollar spot a few years ago and a nativity set up purchases from Walmart. I also decided to add a small twiggy tree next to the main tree. It is wrapped in burlap and flocked. I set it in a galvanized bucket that I purchased from TJ Maxx.

I hope this has inspired you to decorate your Christmas tree this year! I would love to see what you all come up with. Please tag, @_sexonaweekday on Instagram so I can repost.
